A day for reflection
It will be four years on 1st April, since we first opened, and the marina at the moment (as the result of a virtual lockdown thanks to COVID-19) , is so reminiscent of those early days. Eerily quiet, totally tranquil and stunningly beautiful but with an air of suspense. Obviously back then ‘the suspense‘ was completely the other end of the spectrum as it is today - it was whether any new boaters would arrive for an overnight stay, or may be a new boater looking for a permanent mooring might visit , or someone might even want a pump out or heaven forbid fuel!
Today that air of suspense is over arched with anxiety and fear and understandably so, as we wait at home to see exactly which direction this wretched disease will take us all. For our part, we have closed the boathouse until further notice, and shut up shop, only opening the office as and when required for essentials. We have asked our boaters not to make any non essential visits to their boats which is very frustrating as many were looking to fill their free time doing odd jobs. Sadly those DIY jobs need to be done at home where we are all advised to stay to protect the NHS and save lives.
Its amazing how the marina has developed. Today with the sun shining, the entire countryside looks full of promise and although the next few weeks potentially look very grim indeed, I feel a real sense of optimism all round. I honestly believe 100 per cent, that people will pull together and fight this dreadful disease. It is already happening in communities, we can see it with our boaters who are pulling together, heeding advice, staying put and apart, and simply being patient until they can set off on their continuous cruising adventures once again.
On a positive, the weather has been wonderful and thank goodness it has, folks are outside exercising, taking time out and more importantly enjoying the very simple things in life. Just like my Mother used to when she was young.
Today is certainly a day of reflection for which I don’t apologise. There is a lot to be thankful for, not least being lucky enough to be surrounded by beautiful countryside on a truly beautiful day. Stay Safe one and all.
P.S. Beware these blogs might get over lengthy with this lockdown!
