Down but not out

The rain came down and my goodness me didn’t it just? The word biblical has been banded around and heavens above the showers we experienced were the type of rain storms we have never witnessed in over the forty years we have been living locally. We have had 248 millimetres of rain in just six days Biblical they certainly were.

Fortunately our marina performed exactly how it was designed to perform . The pontoons rose and fell throughout the week, and I am glad to report that today they are falling at a really, healthy, steady rate …….. which is excellent news.

Whilst the car park was overwhelmed with water, (I think we were in the very epicentre of the horrendous weather), all the facilities remained unscathed and it was to some extent very much business as usual. The marina office manned by George and Dee remained open during normal office hours, and the duo continued to monitor the situation out of hours, checking boats regularly to make sure everyone was safe. Electricity, logs, coal, elsan etc etc were all being supplied as usual and our strong community spirit shone through, special mention must go to Terry’s ferrys.

The one silver lining to come from the storms has to be the stunning sunsets our moorers have been able to enjoy whilst Strong Stream Advice has been on. Totally stunning, I am sure you will agree.

One thing we did feel very sad about was that we had to cancel our Macmillan coffee morning on Friday. It is one of our most favourite events of the year, but there was simply no way we could have hosted it. We will reschedule it and we will raise lots of money for this worthwhile cause……… just you wait and see.

Anyway, we have lots to look forward to, all is good, the water levels are dropping and we look forward to our lovely boathouse reopening and welcoming all of our loyal and regular customers back this week.

The rain certainly came down but we were certainly not out!

Best wishes from the White Mills Marina team.
